Pleats Please Me With winter done and dusted, what can we expect as the top trends for SS16? From side paneling, to all over accents, you’ll be seeing plenty of pretty pleats this spring. While pleats have been around for a while (think private school girls’ uniform), designers have opted for a fresh modern look this season by keeping pleats small for a micro finish. On the runway at New York, Tommy Hilfiger added a Caribbean flair to pleats with tropical prints while Michael Kors decorated layers of pleating with metal washers. There was no shortage of pleats at Paris Fashion Week, featuring on the runways of Sacai and Balenciaga. But it was Stella McCartney who stole the show with eye-catching metallic pleats- the inside of each pleat was metallic and flashed as models walked down the runway. Celebs have also reignited our love for the pleated skirt. Dakota Johnson was spotted in New York with a stand-out pleated metallic Gucci skirt and slingback platforms while Alexa Chung got the street style seal of approval pairing her pleated midi with an oversized knit, lace up ankle boots and ‘just out of bed’ hair. The light catching piece is ideal for more dressed-down occasions and fits perfectly into your everyday wardrobe this spring. Whether it's with a black lace bodysuit for a date night or with an emerald floral blouse for a picnic, the pleated skirt is a perfect wardrobe brightener this season. Here’s a couple of pleated skirt combos we love.
